Dev Log 9: Gold

Well, here we are—our hard work has finally culminated in the full release of RBRT!

It has been a grueling 8 or 9 weeks. Honestly, I have forgotten how long we have been working on this, as the weeks and months seemed to blend together. I think I can speak for everyone on the team when I say that while we had fun, we are glad to have crossed the finish line.

Looking back at our game, we started off strong. We had a concept and story within the first 24 hours of officially starting the project. But as we progressed, we soon realized we had over scoped the project to an unrealistic degree. We had to make major cuts, including two levels, and then another cut, and yet more cuts to make our goal of completing this game even remotely attainable. Nearly everything from assets to music to the enemy AI had to be reduced in some way.

Despite the cuts, the core value and story of our game remain the same. We are very proud of how the game turned out! Visually, the game looks great, the abilities work well, the music blends in nicely, and the AI is challenging yet fair. We also had a lot of last-minute bugs make their appearance, as well as some bugs we knew about but were unable to fix in time. Despite this, the game is still well-polished and complete.

Although we are overall pleased with our results, if we were to attempt something like this in the future, I think the team and I would choose something that isn’t reliant on story elements.

The team put in countless hours to make this game a reality, and I’d like to thank all of you for joining us on our journey! RBRT is out now
